New fuels … higher running costs
The European Commission’s Blue Economy observatory reports that Europe’s shipbuilding and repair sector has been growing steadily for more than a decade, with the exception of a modest blip around the pandemic. Demand for ship efficiency improvements and upgrades to cut emissions are a key focus. But the development of new marine fuels and demand for energy-saving technologies are other key drivers. IndustriAll, the European Trade Union, is a federation of independent and democratic trade unions, and it reports a growing ship repair and maintenance sector in Europe, which has an overall turnover of more than EUR 91 billion and employs in excess of 500,000 people....
