Oil spill detection for a sustainable ocean

Juli 2017 | Redaktion

Foil-200 | In order to spot oil spills more accurately, Furuno Finland has developed the Furuno Oil Radar FOIL-200. The oil radar automatically calculates the coverage area of detected oil spills and creates an automatic polygon to mark the spill. If necessary, polygons can also be created manually and updated. The FOIL-200 oil spill detection radar is connected to the Furuno standard X-band navigation radar (model: FAR-15x8, FAR-2xx7 or FAR-3000) and uses the raw radar video from the navigation radar. A special high-performance algorithm is used to process and analyse the raw video to detect oil spills. To achieve the most efficient image to detect oil, different fusion modes are available so that users can choose what to see, such as moving targets and oil spills, and the results can be shown on the screen in real time.
