Hurtigruten rides the retrofit wave
The regulator has committed to a reduction of at least 20%, striving for 30%, in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from international shipping by 2030 compared with 2008 levels. Achieving the 2030 target is a tough ask with the cruise operator, now upgrading its third vessel out of nine, in what it says is “one of the largest environmental upgrades of its kind in Europe, and the largest in Hurtigruten’s history.” An investment of EUR 100 million began with the conversion of the coastal ferry, Richard With , named after Captain Richard With, who established the Norwegian Coastal Express in 1893....
