Safe storage of sensitive data

November 2016 | Redaktion

ClassNK | Taking account of new international regulations requiring the maritime industry to enhance the safety of highly sensitive design and construction information, ClassNK’s recently launched onshore archive centre enables shipowners and shipbuilders to comply with the latest IMO GBS-SCF standards, the classification society says. While cutting-edge solutions for data gathering and analysis are paving the way to more efficient ship operations, a wealth of data created during shipbuilding are not used because methods of data collection and verification that could enhance business decision-making are lacking, ClassNK notes. The absence of infrastructure to conduct “big data” analytics in the shipbuilding phase is mainly due to the complexity of vessel construction, with many data types and formats being provided from multiple entities and often stored in different filing systems.
