Economical use of tidal energy

Februar 2013 | Niels Lange, John Armstrong

SCHOTTEL TIDAL GENERATOR One of the first developments of the Josef Becker Research Centre, founded in Spay, Germany, in 2010, was the Schottel Tidal Generator (STG 50). The three-bladed, horizontal-axis, free-flow turbine was designed to harvest tidal energy economically. To achieve a high installed power, several of the 50 kW turbines have to be placed on a single platform, explain the centre’s Niels A. Lange and John Armstrong, director of London-based TidalStream Ltd.
