European heads of state commit to new wind targets
An April meeting of nine European heads of state resulted in commitments to raise targets for future offshore wind generation and make the North Sea ‘a renewable powerhouse for Europe’. The nine countries agreed offshore wind targets of about 120 GW by 2030 and 300 GW by 2050 across the North Sea. The scale of the build-out will be extremely challenging: the various regions of the North Sea currently have a combined capacity of less than 30 GW. However, the countries will sign two political declarations, the Ostend Declaration and a more detailed Energy Minister Declaration setting out plans for cross-border projects....
