Workhorses for challenging offshore operations
HEAVY-LIFT VESSELS The planned installation of numerous offshore wind farms creates additional demand for specialised vessels with high lifting capacities. Extremely varied technical concepts have been developed to enable the transport of units weighing up to 8,000 tonnes or jack-up of 24,000 tonnes. However, there is still a need for innovative multifunctional, heavy-lift carriers of more ship-like designs and semi-submersibles carrying units of up to 110,000 tonnes, writes shipbuilding expert Ralf Witthohn in this edition of our series “Innovative Vessels”.
