Environmental performance evaluation of RoPax ferries
CO2 EMISSIONS The EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) and the EEOI (Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator), which are being worked out by the IMO, can be seen as two of the most advanced concepts in international discussions to reduce CO2 emissions from ships. However, there is disagreement on the applicability of the current approaches to special operational demands such as those of RoRo vessels and short sea shipping. The following article assesses these ships’ different kinds of cargo in regard to their energy requirements.
