New software to prevent parametric roll
Classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) for a new Onboard Guidance System developed with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Eastern Pacific Shipping. The safety system is designed to prevent excessive angles of heel and a synchronous phenomenon, parametric roll, which can gravely endanger container ships in heavy seas. The AiP comes after a joint development project in which the rolling motion of a container ship in a seaway was modelled and tested.
