Cooperation is key
On a recent visit to Finland, a recurring theme was the development of autonomous vessels. A prevailing opinion was that remotely controlled ships and equipment have the potential to redefine the maritime industry and the roles of its players. And while current single developments are targeting specific systems that can help enhance the efficiency of vessels, a completely unmanned vessel will be technologically possible within the next two decades, possibly sooner, according to several experts.
